Frisco's Electric Choice
Frisco residents now have the power to choose their own electric company. Up until December 31, 2001, electricity in Frisco was provided to residents by either the municipal power utility or by a single power company who controlled and maintained power generation, transmission, distribution, and sale to residential and commercial customers. There was very little or no competition. Rates rose or fell only after review by the state utility commission - so any savings rarely trickled down to the consumer.
Becoming effective on January 1, 2002, Texas Senate Bill 7 (SB7) broke the power utility monopoly, establishing a deregulated energy marketplace in the state and Frisco. Now, there are many different energy providers and companies offering competitive rates and plans to consumers in Frisco. Consumers are no longer shackled to one provider and can change their energy provider at any time. They have the power to choose.
